Finding the Right Frames for Your Face Shape

Getting a pair of new glasses can either be exciting or daunting. As your local optician offering designer frames, and prescription sunglasses, Suburban Opticians is here to help you find the perfect frames for your face. So, whether your face is oval, square, round, diamond, or heart-shaped, let’s find best find the frames for you.

Step 1: Determine Your Face Shape

Face shapes are categorized as round, square, round, diamond, or heart. It’s usually pretty easy to identify your face shape by looking in the mirror, but here’s how you can double-check.

First, grab a flexible tape measure and measure the widest part of your forehead. Second, measure the width of the middle of your face, which is near your cheekbones. Next, measure your jawline by measuring from the tip of your chin to just below your ear. Double that measurement to determine the length.

Finally, measure the length of your face by measuring the distance between the tip of your hairline and the tip of your chin.

So, how can you get the final result? Here’s a quick rundown.

Oval: Your face is oval if the length is longer than the width of the midpoint of your face, and your forehead is wider than your jawline.

Square: Your face is square if all measurements are similar. And the angle of the jaw is sharp rather than rounded.

Round: Your face is round if your cheekbones and face length have a similar measurement and are larger than your forehead and jawline. The angle of the jaw is soft and much less defined.

Diamond: Your face is a diamond if the length of your face is the longest measurement, and your chin is pointed.

Heart: Your face is heart-shaped if your forehead is greater than the cheekbones and jawline. The chin is pointed.

Step 2: Compliment your Face Shape

The next step will be to find glasses that compliment your face shape. Let’s talk a little more about each face shape, and the glasses that usually look best.

As you try on glasses, be sure to take a few steps away from the mirror to best gauge your appearance.

Oval: Consider yourself lucky! Many frame shapes suit an oval-shaped face. You’ll want to avoid narrow frames as they can make your face seem too long.

Square: Those donning a square-shaped face are lucky, too. Plenty of glasses styles will fit your face. As you look for the perfect frames, choose a dark and rounded frame, as this will draw focus t your strongest features.

Round: Many frame shapes work here too, but you’ll likely be the most impressed with angular frames. Try to avoid small and round frames.

Diamond: A diamond-shaped face is unique and is best suited with a rimless frame or oval frame.

The key with a diamond-shaped face is to help balance your face.

Heart: Those with a heart-shaped face will want to look for round or oval-shaped glasses that have thin frames. Try to avoid heavy and thick frames.
